Leafelts or Flyers - Which is Which
When looking around for quotes, prices and ideas on your next printing project, make sure you are comparing apples with apples as they say. If you are making your first foray into the printing industry, you will probably be bombarded with a whole new vernacular which you can barely get you tongue around, let alone your head.
But here is an easy distinction which could save you a lot of time and running around when you know whether you need a leaflet or a flyer. Here is the difference; leaflets are generally folded paper made to resemble a book or booklet with information printed on both sides of a single sheet of paper and then folded, while flyers are generally printed on heavier weight paper and printed on only one side.
Of course you can have flat leaflets printed on only one side and since they are being printed on lighter weight paper they can even often work out cheaper to print too. So while leaflets can easily be printed either single or doubled sided, printing flyers double sided can significantly increase the cost because of the type of paper which is generally used.
So to decide whether you need to print leaflets or flyers, you need to be clear about what you are hoping to achieve. If you intend for your printed media to be read and either redeemed in the form of a ticket to a special event or a discount offer, a lighter weight, cheaper option such as a single sided leaflet is probably the way to go.
If you want to make sure your customers keep your printed communications and refer back to them when they need to contact you or reference your products or services, then you may decide on a single sided flyer which can be filed or stuck to a notice board and can easily withstand the pressure.
Or if you want to convey a lot of information to your customers, maybe about new product or services you are offering, then a folded doubled sided leaflet will have plenty of room to say everything you want to say. It will also stand out as something more than just another advertising leaflet as it appears to be a professional, informational booklet.
