How to Use Metallic Inks
You may be surprised to know that after looking through all of the colour swatches your graphic designer has shown you, that there are even more possibilities open to you, the deliciously opulent possibility of using metallic ink. Metallic inks can give your next printing project the confidence to shine out from its paper and demand to be noticed and it will also give your business and your printed media a style and class which can help boost your image with your customers.
When using metallic inks you may want to use them as part of a feature, for example print just the headings in your Annual Report in a metallic equivalent of your corporate colours, or use metallic borders on a flyer, but for a bit of extra style you may want to print your logo on your business cards in a metallic colour.
However, keep in mind when using metallic inks for your printing projects that the metals used may tarnish and the ink can easily scuff. To combat this you may need to varnish your printed document to preserve the inks, however varnishing over metallic ink can dull its sparkle a little, but this can be a small price to pay to preserve that sparkle.
Also make sure that if you are using metallic inks as part of your corporate colour pallet, that you have all of your stationery and print media printed at the same time so that the aging of the metallic ink is consistent across your office documents. If this is not possible you can ask that the metallic ink colours you have chosen are mixed at the same time because then they will experience the most dramatic colour change at the same time - during the first 24 hours.
